I think the point i was trying to make was that market share growth that AMD enjoyed during that period had more to do with Intel not being able to supply volume, thus leaving the buyer with only an AMD choice, and less to do with the AMD performance superiority. AMD was ahead, equal or close to Intel on the high end for a lot longer than the late 99 and 2000 period but market share eroded none the less. For several years the XP line has had Celeron or lower prices while the equivalent P4 prices were double the XP prices. This occurred in spite of the fact that the XPs could meet or beat the P4 chips.

If AMD can maintain a significant performance lead they will no doubt make more money and the company can become profitable. I think Hector is following the plan to keep costs down and build up only when it makes financial sense. For this reason I believe AMD should do well but that their moving up will be a drawn out and slow process.

By the way I picked up a 3000+ 64 that was delivered yesterday. Once I assemble the machine I plan to use it in multiple configurations with the Win64 beta and see just how it performs.
