You're absolutely right. Your post shows why we do not have democracy in America. As I said in #msg-17009919 ... "Politicians in a position to do so institutionalized their advantage by forming political parties and creating rules to preserve them and aid their operation ..."
Political parties advance their own interest at the expense of the public interest. They put self-interest above all other considerations. So far, I see little public understanding of how much our political system limits our choices.
Partisanship is a vital part of society ... provided it is always a voice and never a power. The danger is not in partisanship, it is in allowing partisans to control government. I'm not sure when we are going to learn that ... and learn how to prevent it.
Thanks for that excellent description of the failure of our political system. Changing it will be difficult ... but worth the effort.
