AMPA receptors (AMPARs) are a major subtype of ionotropic receptors that respond to glutamate. Positive allosteric modulators of AMPARs, termed AMPAkines, selectively enhance fast excitatory neurotransmission in the brain and increase overall neuronal excitability.

There is evidence that neuropeptide Y (NPY) is anticonvulsant and reduces neuronal cell death following excitotoxic insult through activation of the Y2 receptor. Various studies have shown that NPY expression is positively regulated by brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). We have previously reported that intermittent treatment of hippocampal slice cultures with ampakines (i.e., positive AMPA receptor modulators) increases BDNF expression and affords BDNF-dependent neuroprotection from an ischemic insult.

The effects of ampakines on multiple types of inspiratory (I) and expiratory (E) neurons within the preBötC and hypoglossal motoneurons are analyzed. Preliminary data show a marked increase in the drive potential and inward inspiratory synaptic current of inspiratory (I) neurons.

that i understand, but life expentancy is only 76 for an american male, and i'm 60; 76 is not that far away.

but i have a plan to give cortex time to get to 50. i heard that in a certain part of japan the men live on average to 101, so when i'm 75 i'm going to move there.

but if cortex still hasn't reached 50 (i hope you meant dollars) by the time i'm 101, i'll sell my cortex and make Pre-arranged funeral plans.
