ExxonMobil admits to causing climate change
Submitted by Vidura Panditaratne on Sat, 2007-01-06 07:55.

ExxonMobil today admitted that climate change is real, and is caused by green houses gasses emitted by burning fossil fuels, much of which is produced by them, but failed to apologise for their actions or change their ways, according to a press release issued by the multi-billion dollar oil company.

"What is clear today is that greenhouse gas emissions are one of the factors that contribute to climate change," the release said. "And that the use of fossil fuels is a major source of these emissions."

The admission came after a group leading scientist blamed ExxonMobil for paying religious groups to create doubt in the public mind about the scientific basis of climate change.

A report by union of concerned scientists uncovered how ExxonMobil has adopted tobacco-industry tactics to spread disinformation on global warming science. By funneling millions of dollars to groups that support a handful of climate change contrarians, ExxonMobil has succeeded in confusing the public about our scientific understanding of global warming (and delaying action needed to slow the trend).

ExxonMobil admitted that they financially supported not-for-profit orgnisations that they "find some of them persuasive and enlightening" but denied they were trying to deliberately "muddy global warming science".
