Magazine headlines as a predictor
My latest edition of Futures Magazine came, with a lead article titled "Walking a Tighrope" reflecting on the never ending bull market with consumer spending on a roll, private equity buyouts and excessive liquidity. Possible ending scenarios are offered but there is "no reason to be a bear," according to one commentator quoted by the author.
The bear correction began on the 19th, and the lag between the writer beginning this story and the market's bearish action, is not just an embarrassment to the editorial staff, but a possible sign of a pending turn around. When you see Newsweek with a lead article on the The "Growling Wallstreet Bear" who has come out of hibernation, you know to go long.
