cbs, I've always looked at CC to be on op ex eve and was wondering as to why this change. I'm not an option guy, but it's always seemed to line up with that 3rd week. Aug is a short month for you guys, so 8/23 is what it is, as you stated.
I've never really bought into the take over idea much. Briefly prior to option mess closure and we were in the basement on stock price, but not much. I don't think that Sehat and family would have any interest. Especially with all of the different product lines coming to fruition at the same times. So in adding to your bullish view of the withdrawal from trade show conferences, may I add:
2a) Busy in preparation for ER and wishing to withhold information to a blow out ¼ at the CC.
Anal-liar-yst have had their way with MRVL for over a year and cost shareholders a lot of money. Some of the largest shareholders founded the company and it could be payback time. This board has dug up a lot of stuff on this company and has yet to find much volume applications on the PXA3xx processors. We know from last CC that the Baseband integration into the apps processor from MRVL was the only one and have heard of several different OEMs make mention of such intergrations. All of those 80 some odd Xscale phones coming out are still Bulverde. HDD biz is returning and that was the heavy bulk of MRVL earnings to start with. This CC could throw a lot of egg on some faces that claim to be gurus.
The Bearish side that you made mention....wouldn't cut cost that much. MRVL isn't laying off because they are in the hurt for money. The migration to TSMC is moving faster. Intel was going to fab for a couple years and now they are already closing that line down. Barring the extension due to an unexpected above estimated need of chips. TSMC will cost less than INTC to fab.
I was surprised how many July option closed ITM. Big Money puts it where they want and couldn't last op ex. With the DOW pull back from 14000, (like it did at 12 and 13 only to blow thru shortly after), this could be big money's push down to buy more and save Aug op ex. Everything may look different 8/24.
Just food for thought.
