It really doesn't matter, as long as it ships without major bugs. The buying public doesn't know the difference between slightly more or less range, or a few percentage points difference in efficiency on the bandwidth. This is one area where brand is everything, so as long as Intel can put their stamp on 802.11g then it will sell. (We may even see them in Athlon64 notebooks.)

IMO, the WIFI playing field will now be leveled between Intel and AMD laptops. The battle shifts totally to low power (Pentium-M) vs. high performance (mobile Athlon64). The companies seem to be dividing the market between them, Intel has the thin&light market for 2004 and AMD has the "thinking man's" share of the desktop replacements. (Some who buy reflexively will still get mobile P4s.)

One more thing - the aftermarket for 802.11g plugin cards should do a brisk business selling into the 2003 Centrino user base. Linksys and DLink should be doing backflips about now. :)
