I try to stick to facts and not fantasy - King Henry VIII was given the title "Defender of the Faith" by the Pope for his written work entitled "Defence Of The Seven Sacraments" of the Catholic Church. King Henry wrote this work to defend the Church against protestantism.

King Henry wanted to sever ties with the Catholic Church because he wanted to divorce and remarry and remarry and remarry (what a lustful POS ;) so he started his own Chuch that would accomidate that... pretty simple really.
