Intel/AMD Overall Performance Index

http://www.matbe.com/articles/lire/385/core-se-decline-en-pentium-et-celeron/page15.php

My last post on this review. I wanted to make sure people had a chance to see this last summary graph. My one complaint is that the reviewers didn't really use a lot of multithreaded apps, so that tended to make the quad core parts look pretty mediocre. Overall, it's a good summary.

I think it's surprising to see the upcoming Allendale processor E4500 (2.2GHz) perform about equivalent to a 2.8GHz AMD dual core (they used the FX-62 rather than the 5600+, but the two are equivalent). Notice some of the other close comparisons:

AMD 6000+ (3.0GHz) <= Intel E6600 (2.4GHz) <- E6550 should be similar @ $163, compared to AMD @ $178
AMD FX-62 (2.8GHz) ~= Intel E4500 (2.2GHz) <- Shocking! Soon a $133 part, compared to AMD @ $157
AMD 5000+ (2.6GHz) <= Intel E4400 (2.0GHz) <- Will soon be a $113 part, compared to AMD @ $125
AMD 4400+ (2.3GHz) ~= Intel E2160 (1.8GHz) <- Only $84 part, compared to AMD @ $94
AMD 3800+ (2.0GHz) ~= Intel E2140 (1.6GHz) <- Only $74, same price as AMD 4000+
Sempron 3800+ (2.2GHz) ~= Celeron 430 (1.8GHz)
Sempron 3600+ (2.0GHz) ~= Celeron 420 (1.6GHz)

The next round of Intel price cuts are going to be very painful for AMD. Also, rather amusing:

Celeron 356 (3.33GHz) ~= Celeron 420 (1.6GHz) smile

Lastly, note that the X6800 (close to the E6850) is 26% ahead of AMD's fastest 3.0GHz part. How much IPC is K10 architecture supposed to deliver, and what are the chances of it hitting 3.0GHz...? smile
