How do I hide that huge opening box full of information at the beginning of the thread?


We call this the iBox (info, intro, investor box). At the bottom of the iBox, click on "Hide Board Info." This will hide the info and take you directly to the posts from now on, until you hit "Show Board Info." When there is a modification or an update to it, it will be unhidden to point out the change. You can then hide it again.
