Of these four gentlemen, all but Skilling never resigned at all. They were fired.

Waksal was canned when the BoD learned he was about to be arrested; Ebbers was ousted amid an SEC investigation of accounting irregularities and a huge personal loan from the company’s coffers; Lay got the boot only after Enron had declared bankruptcy.

DNDN’s BoD probably doesn’t have the spine to get rid of Gold until they have to. That’s why it’s unlikely to happen in as little as a year.
