That's the point, you say you can prove they were wrong empirically but you have no factual basis for these allegations. Finite truth is variable and WE DON'T KNOW THE FACTS. Those items mentioned and this "modest business" are also unknowns you are speculating about and that (imo) should be the focus of your post and not your assumptions. Who knows? They may have 40 acres of old growth Black Walnut trees they purchased for us shareholders hidden away somewhere in the north woods worth millions - who knows?
