The 77-year-old Fed chairman has not said he wants to stay beyond the expiration of his term in June 2004. But Fed-watchers believe he wants to remain at the helm of the central bank until an economic recovery is firmly in place.

He came in on a crash in 1987, and my guess is, he leave on one.

He will be a broken man.
