As you know I posted exactly what Novak said in his July 14 column:

First sentence:
Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction.
(I am of the understanding that the fact that Plame worked for the CIA was general knowledge by those who knew the couple -- if Novak knew this the sentence makes sense)

Second sentence:
Two senior administration officials told me Wilson's wife suggested sending him to Niger to investigate the Italian report
(Apparently not quite true but Novak corrected the statement in the next sentence)

Third sentence:
The CIA says its counter-proliferation officials selected Wilson and asked his wife to contact him.
(Makes sense as Plame worked at the CIA)
