CoMedia Corporation's Request Audio Subsidiary Releases Big Band Audio and Video Series
Los Angeles, CA - June 8, 2007 - CoMedia Corporation's (OTCPK: CMTN) ReQuest Audio subsidiary announces the release of its 4 part series "BIG BAND" audio CD and DVD combination. The series features never before released footage of exclusive performances that include icons of the big band era including Duke Ellington, Gene Krupa, Count Basie, Harry James, Cab Calloway, Tex Beneke, Stan Kenton, and many more.
Mr. Clive Fox President of ReQuest Records, stated, "This catalogue of filmed classic big band performances were acquired exclusively by Request Records. These are original "Soundies", which were predecessors of today's music videos, and all are in black and white, as was standard at the time." Fox went on to say, "We have received many outstanding reviews that point out the uniqueness of these DVDs and the value of having a set that includes both the video and audio version in one package."
Included in the 4 part set the Beneke film, with him at the helm of the postwar Glenn Miller Orchestra (complete with string section), includes the appearances of the young Henry Mancini at the piano, plus Army Air Forces Orchestra holdovers Bobby Nichols (trumpet), Johnny Halliburton (trombone), Addison "Junior" Collins (French horn), and Artie Malvin and the Crew Chiefs who were renamed the Moonlight Serenaders.
The video of Art Wald is one of the oldest, and features Artie Shaw-styled clarinet, vocalist Anita Boyer. The Krupa film features a hot young trumpeter Red Rodney (who has a large speaking role), and of course Krupa himself drumming on pots and pans. Also included is the 1947 Kenton band in glory, with 21-year-old June Christy singing Duke Ellington's "Just a Sittin' and a Rockin'", the vocal quartet The Pastels on "Down In Chihuahua". Recognizable faces in the band include trumpeters Buddy Childers and Ray Wetzel; trombonists Kai Winding, Milt Bernhart, and Bart Varsalona; saxophonists Boots Mussulli, Vido Musso, Bob Cooper, and Bob Gioga; bassist Eddie Safranski, drummer Shelly Manne, and of course, Kenton himself at the piano.
