russ, ask your doc about Aricept. I use it in Mild Cognitive Impairment in an off-label capacity all the time. Sometimes you get a nice response in clearly defined MCI.
Also, PLEASE check out this website http://www.positscience.com/ This is a company that basically designs an audio program with memory training exercises. This is a private company so I'm not pimping another company, but what they do is quite intriguing. They have some published work referenced on their website. So, one could propose for an 80 year-old healthy patient with MCI: a trial of Aricept at 5mg a day, NYT Sunday Cross World puzzles, reading whatever you like and avoiding TV, exercise that should be continued with(it increases BDNF on its own and has probably helped you), a trial of this POSIT science program, radio shows like NPR on some esoteric topic because you visualize things with more active thinking with radio than tv, simple quick tests of memory on your own as mental exercise, making sure there are no confounding variables at play: low thyroid, b12 deficiency ect...Hope that helps and good luck. david
