Being that you have never been one of the moderators or assistant moderators on the board, you have absolutely NO idea what the moderators were doing or not doing before the Mod Squad arrived. The only ones who had access to see what was removed or not removed, and what was restored or not restored, are the Admins and the moderators. The only ones privvy to TOS reports, are the Admins.
I was not added as an assistant until after the Mod Squad was already present.
Granted, you said it was your opinion rather that stating it as fact, however, I find it baseless.
As it stands now, today (I don't care why the Mod Squad was there originally, and why they were there originally had nothing to do with my comment.) it doesn't do any good for the actual moderators and assistants to do anything, because the Mod Squad is constantly changing what action has been taken.
I think your assumption that the Mod Squad is doing things correctly is just as faulty as your assumption that there is a failure on the part of the moderators.
If the moderators were failures of their own accord, then they would be failing in each instance they were a moderator, no?
I participate in other boards where the discussions are orderly, even if sometimes heated. The discussions are varied and diversified. The discussions are usually constructive and informative. People are able to agree to disagree.
I'd like to attribute this to the moderators/assistants on the boards I'm thinking of, but that would also be erroneous. Moderators can certainly help, but they cannot control a message board. Only the participants can do that.
The Mod Squad can remove 100% of the posts, and short of shutting it down altogether, they can't control it either. That is the futility. The Mod Squad does not participate. They cannot in such a case use reasoning to garner cooperation with the rules they supposedly enforce. There is no moderation in the Mod Squad methods.
And just for the record "quality" has nothing to do with it. I'd certainly prefer it, but it's not a prerequisite in deeming a post to be appropriate and not in violation of the TOU.
I never said the Mod Squad should never have come to the WRNW board, as you seem to focus on. I only said I don't believe they belong there any longer, and even that would have to be extrapolated from my short little message.
