GP I see you avoided what we were talking about and that was how Iraq can be compared to Vietnam and not so deftly tried to change the subject with your rant. It was quite revealing in a Freudian way actually. My comments in bold however I do wish you could give your thoughts about how we can’t compare Iraq to Vietnam.
Soxie - I think ......
all war sucks ...
terrorist attacks on our country from without suck even more ...
those who lack the will to fight to defend this nation from enemies, but prefer instead to allow "world opinion" to shape our policies, are lower than low.....
it appears this is a straw man running around in your mind that you need to somehow knock down. Maybe you can enlighten us as to who were our enemies in Iraq that posed an imminent threat. I think the lower than low are people who call themselves patriots and wrap themselves in the American flag by constantly referring to some amorphous enemy that we need to fight or hate or demonize. These faux Americans first option is to have our soldiers fight and will easily put them in harms way unnecessarily. These faux American’s thought processes are very shallow and their understanding of history is limited to their own limited experiences. I think these Americans should have to take a test to vote because I truly think they are un-American.
those professional politicians who hide behind their office, or their political party, to whine and cry about a serving commander in chief, while they have absolutely no idea of how things should be done to protect our interests, won't contribute one bit of effort toward the common defense of the nation in any fashion, and perceive themselves as the only possible saviors of the world, are pure chicken-shit......
I agree that all those chicken hawks that complain and rail should be hounded out of office. I remember all the republicans who cried when the hummer was in office and tried to limit what he did in Bosnia without any loss of American soldiers including our current punk – are those the pure chicken-shits you are referring to? Newt? Cheney? Out current POTUS? Mitch McConnell? Bug man? Hastart? Wolfie? And many other republicans?
the members of the news media who perceive their main function as 'being the news' rather than 'reporting the news' should be hung.
I agree although I think it’s a bit harsh. I think reports should find news and uncover news and be adversarial to the government making our government more accountable to the people. I take Jefferson’s side and would rather have a free press than government.
those citizens who are concerned with nothing but "being heard" when they have nothing meaningful to say other than pointing fingers, are true enemies of this country .....
the naive, unknowing, clueless low lifes who cry "we support our troops" while undermining the troops' mission, detracting from the troops' welfare, and removing the military's ability to actually practice their trained profession, are traitors.
here we have some clarification needed because I know you don’t mean what you are saying. It’s emotion talking and that is usually dangerous. I look at the President as not giving two shits about our troops He has never cared about our troops unless they could be a photo-op. Even in the Mission Accomplished photo-op he had that carrier wait a few miles off the coast keeping those troops from their families another day. Just a few weeks ago he rejects a .05 percent increase in their salaries and rejected adding another $40 per month for death benefits for surviving spouses with families. You seem to confuse, and many people in your predicament thing the same way, the mission and the troops as one in the same. Would you support our troops at a Mie Lia, or if they did many illegal things? I certainly hope not as that would truly be un-American and immoral. When bringing up children any decent parent would never confuse their love of their child with some inappropriate action by their child so why can’t you separate the two. Have you never heard hate the sin not the sinner? I don’t know to many republicans who can honestly say “they support the troops” when they sent them to battle without the proper arms do you? For over a year we have had the capability to send better transport to almost eliminate deaths by ied’s yet while they were in control of the congress they never passed funding to get them over to Iraq? Do you think those republicans supported the troops? The recent bill the president vetoed had funding for those transports – so I guess he does not support the troops as I have previously stated. In fact he could have supplied those transports over a year ago but did not nor has he supplied better vests for the soldiers. What does that say about your feckless leader?
those public figures who encourage our enemies by their incessant, shrill public claims of such crap as "This war is lost", need to be tied and staked to a hill of fire ants.
I would prefer we stake to a hill of ants the reckless thoughtless incompetent evil public figures that got us into this unnecessary war that has killed over 4000 troops and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi’s.
that this war will go on for a long time,
what part of reality based thinking escapes you? Do you think those 14 bases in Iraq are for the short run? What fuzzy headed thinking makes you think this will not be a long war?
that we can not and must not be setting time tables that limit our dedication and determination,
this thinking amazes me. In business no intelligent business executive would continually fund money into something that does not show improvement or is not working. While this is not business and is far more important what you are saying is that we will continue to have our soldiers die as long as is necessary even if what we are doing does not makes sense. I guess this is what I’m referring to as supporting the mission and not the troops.
that folks need to learn these 'rights' enjoyed by many and abused by several, weren't provided by world opinion, nor gained by a time table.
our rights were gained by overthrowing and revolting against the British Empire and drafted by our founding fathers and added to by amendments. What this has to do with your argument is beyond me except if you are foolishly thinking that Iraq was somehow trying to conquer us and take away our rights. But then again maybe you might have something because it seems that our current government is trying to take away our rights and it appears your thought process is more of appeasing them rather than fighting against that process. For someone who states they were in the military why are you so willing to give up your rights?
I think anyone not willing to contribute to the well being of the country, should shut the F**k up, and allow the ones who are willing to sweat and bleed, to make the decisions.
=
so how did all those chicken hawks make the decision for the ones sweating and bleeding? Are you saying by the above statement that soldiers should control when they fight? Now that is scary. It sounds like you’re looking for some third world government led by a dictator who was in charge of the military. Have you gone that far over the edge?
What do you think? see above
