VANCOUVER, BC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/23/07 -- The World Hockey Association WHA (PINKSHEETS: WHKA) league officials have approved two new franchises: the HNM Jr Canadians & the Quebec Gladiators, therefore creating the WHA Junior Hockey League Eastern Division. For Information: www.hnmjracanadians.com/
The WHA created the WHA Junior West Hockey League to promote the sport of hockey. The World Junior Hockey League is an alternative, community-based league for highly skilled junior players, and is designed to promote high standards of sportsmanship in hockey & academic success. The 2007-2008 season will feature an expansion in the east, the WHA Junior Hockey League will establish 4 to 6 new franchises in Quebec & the Northeastern US States.
The WHA expects to be able to announce the most recently approved franchises by the end of May 2007.
WHA CEO Ricky Smith stated, "We are in the process of finalizing the details which will bring to the WHA established and successful hockey franchises. The word must be getting out because this has stimulated other teams to make inquiries into the WHA. Those inquiries have resulted in the two latest franchise submission forms."
Smith added, "In the beginning we had ownership groups looking to create new franchises from scratch. Now we seem to be in a position wherein established and successful franchises are coming to us and saying, 'Where do we sign?' We could not be happier with the results we are seeing from our efforts to establish a system which we feel will result in the WHA becoming the preeminent junior hockey league in the United States and Canada. This might seem optimistic, but we believe it is something we can achieve over time. It is now starting to look as though the dream that Bobby Hull, Garry Unger and I have had is beginning to become a reality."
WHA Vision
The WHA Hockey League is the successful combination of hockey and education & will create opportunities for talented student athletes 15-20 years of age to showcase their skills in a highly competitive environment.
WHA Mission
To assemble teams with players that provide challenging competition for participants to exhibit their skills for evaluation to College, University or Professional.
Education and Development
The single most important element of the WHA is the successful combination of hockey and education. Players in the WHA are expected to treat their academic education as a priority equal to their athletic development, each team strives to combine a high level of competition with a commitment to education. With a schedule of more than 50 games, practice time, off ice conditioning and public appearances, players are well prepared for their next level of hockey, whether it be at the college, university level or as a professional.
Philosophy of the WHA Junior Hockey League
Junior hockey is the pinnacle of the skill development program. Junior hockey is for players who seek a greater or more difficult challenge than that which might be available through their high school varsity or club team, or area midget or junior teams. The principal purpose of the junior development program is to prepare the athlete for career advancement either in a collegiate or professional opportunity, to provide considerable training time, quality coaching, a healthy, constructive environment in which to play socially, to provide assistance and opportunities for the accomplishment of the participant's educational goals, and to provide players with exposure to collegiate, professional scouts, recruiters & educational advancement.
