There are many areas where one well pinnacle reef plays are known to exist, that cover large, significant areas in many sedimentary basins in the continental United States. We are currently reviewing all of these plays as time permits, both from the standpoint of literature and production searches, as well as with field surveys using PIP. We have identified more than a dozen reef plays that have high potential to yield additional significant domestic production. Many of these reef plays contain hundreds, and even thousands, of potential pinnacle reef wells.
All of these plays have proven difficult, if not impossible, for 3D seismic; and, as a result, the larger independents and majors have no interest in pursuing them. Most of these larger companies know that these reef plays exist, but they are also very well aware of how difficult they are to pinpoint with conventional petroleum exploration methods, a final conclusion that has been proven by an almost unbelievable number of dry holes in pursuit of these reef plays.
PIP does not have pinnacle reef resolution problems. PIP fieldwork has demonstrated conclusively that PIP geophysical measurements have the ability to easily locate and delineate these small pinnacle reef features, and many such projects will be coming to the forefront of our exploration efforts in the near future.
