How about for a starter, "the state or fact of being real."
Literally. Or philosophically speaking, "that which exists
without ideas concerning it" or simply, "that which is real."

It's an idea .. a word .. a symbol representing an idea .. how
many ideas are there .. does the definition of reality mean
more to the child under a bomb for 25 continuous years as those
in I raq or for the presidents daughter or Dicks for that matter
or for the girl who was raped by a soldier, a father a mother or
friend ..
