wow - very interesting post!

You may well be right that Basso long ago made the decision to take a different route than Floyd if it came to that. If that's the case, then I have to applaud him for at least not dragging cycling further through the mud. And respect him for being a lot smarter than Floyd.

Agreed also that the heat will be dialed up on Riis. Will Bruyneel manage to maintain the teflon coating, though? To me, he is worse than Riis. He's been a doper his whole career. Remember Bruyneel rode under the tutelage of Manolo Saiz! To me, Armstrong and Bruyneel are the chief architects of this entire mess. If Riis goes down, it would be plain wrong, IMO, if Bruyneel doesn't go down right alongside him.

In fact, IMO there shouldn't be a single cyclist punished in this whole Puerto nightmare until the Directors and doctors are given the heave-ho.

Meanwhile, it won't be only cycling getting a black eye this summer -- the lid is about to blow on a whole new doping scandal in Major League Baseball. Several reporters of real credibility and familiarity with the case say it will be the worst thing yet in baseball. The dealer-source on this got busted in November 2005 and cooperated with the Feds for 17 months. He is reported to have made taped and wired conversations during that 17 month period as the Feds chased down leads.

Come to think of it, I'm actually surprised we haven't seen the videos or heard wire-tapped conversations from Operacion Puerto. I know they had video of a number of cyclists, and obviously of the Manolo Saiz cash for blood briefcase swap.

Meanwhile, I didn't watch a lick of the Tour de Georgia and couldn't get interested in LBL, Ghent or the other classics. In an era when pro cycling is finally available on TV in the US (and on the 'Net), it's sad to have all this mess.

I wish they'd just take the medicine and get on with it instead of trying half-measure after half-measure.
