The Road to Success

Buying Proximity also bought the application team, no? So it doesn't drag on existing Apple resources, it comes with a team that's already expert in the niche, and they already have an existing customer base that's proven it's willingness to shell out for the software 25x what Apple is proposing to charge (can you say upgrade revenue?).

I agree Apple is looking to open the field. Lowering the price to play will get more players, and I suspect Apple is betting this sells more hardware, which I think is the real goal. Apple wants to offer an end-to-end media creation environment and eventually own the whole segment and supply all its high-end hardware needs.

This is where Final Cut Pro came from, if you recall: Apple bought a PC video editor. Apple is recruiting select Servants of the Dark Side and directing them to the cause of Macs.

I don't know what to say about WebObjects ... they dropped the price, but did it take off? Apple users get it for free, but what does it offer that Ruby on Rails doesn't? I'm exposing my ignorance here not to get kicked, but to get ... another geography lesson wink

Take care,
