Plugger, I found it, the sentence would have indeed been better constructed if written "We can't spend a lot of time probing with scraggy fingers these old wounds and wonder, with almost a prurient bent, as to who did what to whom." Rather than my original version: "We can't spend a lot of time probing these old wounds with scraggy fingers and wonder with almost a prurient bent as to who did what to whom." What that "it"?
