Re: WEAC-Meme - gun control

What "at last"? That was my first post after you said it. Also, I didn't characterize you that way.

Sorry, WEAC, I suspect it was the triple-team effect. Perhaps, I should have said "at last, someone who agrees a dog is a deterrent," which I thought in and of itself was non-debatable. Guess not on this board. <VBG>

Okay, now the end now on this subject for me, for the time being. You asked:

That is just the opposite of everything I've ever read. I don't suppose you have a link to the federal statistics?

This was part was me - Moreover, since the adoption of the Brady Bill both crime and gun-related crime has dropped significantly.

This is another claim that is exactly the opposite of everything I've ever read. Both seem to fly in the face of the fact that the highest violent crime rates exist in Washington DC and Detroit, which have the tightest restrictions on civilian gun ownership in the nation.

The statistics are quoted and the link is provided in my post to Dennis, #3971, straight from the U.S. Dept. of Justice. That they fly in the face of everything you've read doesn't surprise me. This is why I prefer to gather my facts from unbiased sources.

Those with agendas will always cite states or cities with unusual situations. DC is a mess unto itself. I don't think you can extropolate anything from one peculiar area.

Dennis cited CA. It, too, is unlike most parts of America.

Statistics that are often quoted come from those with agendas. People with agendas attempt to manipulate these statistics to further their agendas. This is why I think we should always look for the raw numbers.

We cannot look at our nation's problems or dilemmas and begin to understand them by only looking at the abnormalities.
