Confidentiality agreements can be handled in various ways by companies when presented with an external query (.e.g., a phone call to Genivar):
Option 1 - Answer any questions fully and breach the agreement Option 2 - Admit a relationship, assert that they cannot answer any further queries Option 3 - Deny any relationship or state that they cannot comment on company business relationships and avoid further questioning
Of course that is assuming you spoke to someone who even knew about any Alcar-Genivar connection.
My point is that if they choose Option 3, then they would deny it anyway, hence the whole exercise is fruitless and it is misleading to even arrive at any conclusion regarding the relationship. As far as they are concerned, you might be a competitor attempting to obtain knowledge regarding their operations.
