This is exactly it. AMD has zero credibility with the analysts as it is, and they're just about to announce another terrible quarter. So Richard goes before the press and does a little dance, and hopefully some customers get sympathetic....
It reminds me of a Simpson's episode where Burns and Smithers put on a show for investors that's more like a standup comedy routine. Except in this case, Richard is AMD's clown.
