I dont think it is a matter of folks saying "it is a bunch of lies". I presented that just as an example that non neocons could think that Al-jazeera was a bunch of lies.
To me it is a matter of whether they really are lying, not whether I like their opinion. I dont like CNN or Fox's innuendo and non news opinion. I want facts on the ground.

It becomes a reality question. Does the news present reality or not? Does it purposly present non reality? Is this free speech? I dont think politically tainted lies about what happens in the world are free speech.

And I dont think that someone on a soap box would be allowed to do it on 100 TV stations. I dont think free speech is hate speech. And there lies the rub: who decides?

I also dont think it had much to do with the Saddam tapes. They were just an excuse, it has a lot to do with whether they were consistently lying to the Iraqi people.
