Van Sun/CP say CP Rail works on Revelstoke derailment

The Vancouver Sun reports in a Canadian Press dispatch Wednesday it may be days before two sections of the Trans-Canada Highway in British Columbia, closed after a series of mudslides, are reopened. The unbylined item says the slides have blocked the route west of Hope and in the Fraser Canyon near Lytton. "We're estimating the Trans-Canada Highway between Spences Bridge and Lytton will remain closed for about seven to 10 days due to significant washouts that occurred the early hours of Monday morning," said Bob Gilowski of VSA Road Maintenance Services. Meanwhile, CP Rail was working to reopen its line east of Revelstoke after an avalanche triggered a derailment on Sunday. Nineteen cars went off the tracks, including ones carrying coal and windshield wiper fluid. The railway said the fluid was cleaned up without environmental damage and no one was hurt.
