After a pipeline explosion repair, is it buried before it is tested?

No. Repairs to buried pipelines are tested before final backfilling. Typical sequence:

Excavate and expose the damaged segment.
Make the repair (welding, sleeve, clamp, or replacement).
Inspect the repair visually and with NDT (e.g., radiography, ultrasonic testing) as required.
Pressure-test the repaired section or the pipeline segment (hydrostatic or pneumatic) per code/operating procedures while the trench remains open so leaks or failures can be observed and accessed.
Perform any required cathodic protection reconnection, coating touch-up, and leak surveys after testing.
Backfill and restore the trench once tests and inspections pass.
Regulatory and operator procedures vary, so follow the applicable pipeline code and the operator’s repair/testing protocol.
