Pres. Donald Trump on Tuesday reportedly sent 50 more warplanes to the Middle East to scare Iran and, as long as they’re going out, maybe pick up another Nobel Peace Prize for him.
In addition to those F-35s, F-22s and F-16s, Trump has already sent a battalion of F-yous to Iran in the form of air-defense systems, hundreds of fighter jets, a dozen warships, two aircraft carriers, and 150 cargo flights bringing in weapons systems, ammunition, and Christianity.
One Trump adviser told Axios in a new report this morning, "I think there is 90% chance we see kinetic action in the next few weeks," even though using cool terms like “kinetic action” for war wouldn’t make it any less unkonstitutionetic.
Two Israeli officials told Axios that Israel is pushing for a sustained military assault to achieve regime change in Iran.
Other unnamed sources told Axios the emerging scenario is a joint U.S.-Iraeli campaign that could last weeks.
Trump had threatened strikes last month over Iran’s massacring of protesters, but then forgot or something. The issue now is nuclear talks, in which a deal is looking elusive despite the savvy, seasoned negotiating of shady real-estate moguls Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
They had a three-hour meeting Tuesday with Iran’s foreign minister and yet somehow didn’t strike a deal anywhere near as sturdy as the October 2025 peace deal between Hamas and Israel that has led to more than 600 additional deaths in Gaza.
It’s not clear why an attack on Iran would be needed, or even why nuclear talks are needed, given that Trump was quite clear about totally destroying Iran’s nuclear facilities last summer. It’s also not clear whether all the military maneuvering is to get an agreement out of Iran that even the skills of Witkoff and Kushner can’t get.
But that’s what we thought last year, when Trump gave Iran two weeks to something something and then hit those nuclear sites three days later. Trump may be tempted by the lure of war without American bloodshed; emboldened by last year’s Iran strikes, by his successful attack on Venezuela, and by his mounting maritime death toll closer to home…
