I looked back and seen one of your other posts

MTi has a head start here:
https://www.facebook.com/reel/1324441416135171

That video mentioned 33 Smart Cities but there are actually a lot more. MTi is already in some of them.

There isn’t a fixed official list of exactly 33 “smart cities” worldwide, because “smart city” isn’t a single universal designation — it’s a term used by different organizations to describe places integrating technology and data to improve urban life (mobility, energy use, services, sustainability, governance, etc.). Instead, various rankings and initiatives list hundreds of cities with smart programs or score them on smart-city performance. ?

📊 Recent Smart City Index (Global Rankings)

One of the most widely cited rankings is the IMD Smart City Index, which ranks the smartest cities worldwide based on resident perceptions of infrastructure, technology, services, sustainability, and quality of life. In 2025, this index evaluated 146 cities — far more than 33. ?

Here’s the top 20 from that ranking (2025): ?
1. Zurich, Switzerland
2. Oslo, Norway
3. Geneva, Switzerland
4. Dubai, UAE
5. Abu Dhabi, UAE
6. London, UK
7. Copenhagen, Denmark
8. Canberra, Australia
9. Singapore
10. Lausanne, Switzerland
11. Helsinki, Finland
12. Prague, Czechia
13. Seoul, South Korea
14. Beijing, China
15. Shanghai, China
16. Ljubljana, Slovenia
17. Amsterdam, Netherlands
18. Stockholm, Sweden
19. Hong Kong
20. Hamburg, Germany

(And many other cities rank beyond those — the index includes 146 total.) ?

🌍 Are there more smart cities now?

Yes — hundreds. There are at least dozens to hundreds of cities around the world that identify themselves as smart cities or are recognized in smart city indices, depending on how “smart” is defined. Some researchers and organizations list:
• 100+ cities ranked in global smart city indexes
• Cities everywhere with smart city initiatives (e.g., Barcelona, Tokyo, New York, Toronto, Melbourne, etc.) in other rankings or indexes of urban technology performance ?

Additionally, regional smart city initiatives (e.g., the Smart Cities Mission in India or Intelligent Community Forum awards) create their own lists of smart cities or communities — sometimes numbering in the tens or hundreds per country. ?

📌 Why lists differ

Different organizations score smart cities using different criteria:
• IMD Smart City Index: technology, quality of life, sustainability, mobility
• World Population Review & Cities in Motion: digital infrastructure, governance, mobility, economy
• Smart Cities Missions (national programs): local infrastructure projects and standards

Because there’s no single global authority that defines all smart cities, one ranking’s “top 33” might look very different from another’s top 100 — and there’s no fixed cutoff of only 33 smart cities overall. ?

?

Summary

✅ There are many more than 33 smart cities worldwide.
✅ Global rankings like the IMD Smart City Index 2025 list at least 146 cities, with many smart initiatives beyond that. ?
✅ The number grows each year as more cities adopt smart technologies and programs.
