Kayak, If we’re measuring success by actual investment results, the numbers speak for themselves. I sold most of my ELTP position around $0.50 and reallocated that capital into the other stocks I mentioned earlier. Today alone those positions are up over $8,000. Meanwhile, ELTP is sitting around $0.47 — so I’m confident I made the right decision.
Last year was a strong year for me overall. The only real drag on my portfolio was ELTP. At one point I was down nearly $50,000 and still held the position for over a year specifically for tax reasons. Since December, I’ve already recovered close to $15,000 by reallocating into stronger performers. Had I stayed fully invested in ELTP, another three-cent drop would have meant an additional ~$15,000 loss. Reducing my exposure wasn’t emotional — it was risk management.
Also, to clarify: the 80,000 shares you’re referring to are in my Roth account. The much larger portion of my exposure was in a taxable individual account, where I intentionally held the position for more than a year to qualify for long-term capital gains treatment rather than short-term tax rates. That’s basic tax efficiency, not hesitation.
