Guess it could be seen as insensitive, though in the moment it felt more sensitive than that. You know the old saying, "don't judge a book by it's cover." That thought was there when the other came, and that i don't think is seen as being insensitive to the book content. It felt more like i was expressing appreciation to the real person.

After all one of the reasons why makeup is used by so many is because over centuries women as a group has have been conditioned to look better for men. If men had never existed would the makeup industry be so lucrative. That's not at all taking away from what janice said. I fully empathize with her comment on wrinkles, too.
