First lets define blaspheme....to show contempt...disrespect or defiance toward God through words or actions. It involves insulting Gods name, character, or attributes...so. We live in a world today that seems to have forgotten that the Names of our Creator and His Son...."God" and "Jesus"...are holy and righteous names not to be thrown around in a sentence like any common word. And we hear that all the time on TV and movies...our work place and on the street...basically everywhere...and... even once in awhile someone that professes to be a believer will let a oh my god or something similar fly. So...just in case someone may not get it...ill spell it out plain and simple as best i can. We all know that combining Gods name and a structure to hold back water is taking the Lords name in vain. Thats kinda the big one...right? Here is the reminder...speaking the name of "God" and "Jesus" in a sentence when mad...angry...frustrated or unsatisfied...is also taking the name of the Lord in vain cause it is like using His name as a cuss word...so to speak. Im pretty sure we all know when we hear someone use the name of "God" and "Jesus" in a sentence in a certain way that they have just taken the Lords name in vain...and in doing that...it is blasphemy...thats serious business! Well now...lets go a little further. Do we also know that when we just say "God" or "Jesus" or "Jesus Christ" in the context of a sentence in casual conversation like when we are happy...excited...pleased...like..."Oh my god" or "for gods sake"...or "Jesus Christ!" ...we have also taken the Lords name in vain. Did i mention thats serious business? Question...as a believer when we type OMG in a text or social media and in our minds we are thinking Oh my gosh...but...what is most everyone else reading...Oh my god? What the world thinks you mean...is that what counts? Anytime we say "God" and "Jesus" outside of praise...worship...holiness and righteousness...we are taken the lords name in vain and blasphemy has occurred. God has made it very clear...again...blasphemy is the use of His name in any way other than to glorify Him alone. This means we can blaspheme by speaking Gods name irreverently...unlovingly and in casual conversation...and...remember # 2 of the 10 Commandments....“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” Oh yeah....one more thing...when we do that it really dont do much for our witness and testimony....Think about it!
