The registration is not tied to the postal address but to the account held with the broker or bank.

I personally experienced this issue when my former bank was sold and a new institution took over its operations. As a result, all links to my new bank were severed. My final COOP distribution ended up in an escrow/sub-account at the old bank, and it took the new bank several months of searching before they were able to locate the shares.
