We have differing opinions on the term "RELEASED IN THEATERS". Booking a few screens in random multiplex's is not what you call "releasing a movie".
The CEO did write a solid "release plan", but so far, that plan has not been executed.
A big retail clothing brand deal was announced but never spoken about again. An overblown 100M impression national media blitz was announced but now, 4 days prior to release, no proof any part of that plan has come to fruition. At this point there is no evidence the film will even play in the theaters listed in the latest blog.
He could have easily laid out a nice, safe platform release in a few theaters (in Oklahoma & Arkansas) with a big local media push and a promise to expand slowly, if the box office business was robust. Where is the shame in this?
I will be the first to say I was wrong and give the CEO a well deserved pat on the back if evidence of the massive marketing plan is presented and the film is playing on the theaters on his list.
