On E-Trade Pro Web you can use the quick trade to place orders . I just hit Sell to go short but then I go to the positions page choose " Buy to Cover "and send it. There may be a Buy To Cover choice without going to positions page but I've done it that way. You definitely want fast execution when both selling short and buying to cover ..Hot Keys are the best to use.
