Oh, I think he did make a fool of himself, though he may not be able to accept that fact. The whole thing was ridiculous. A red carpet? Special treatment for Pooty in the form of a ride in the Beast? I think Trump was trying to impress the guy he so desperately wants to think of as his friend.

So then they talked for two hours, and then they did a little presentation at which Pooty talked about Russian history and Trump spoke, very briefly about how unfairly he's been treated by so many people.

Then--and this puzzles me--they just split and went home. Skipped lunch. Why on earth did they skip lunch? They weren't the only people there: there were Putins aides and Trump's people. And translators. Did they all just say there weren't hungry? Even though an at least moderately lavish meal must have been awaiting them?

Or did something happen?

Yes, you're right about Rubio. But he doesn't have the balls to stand up to Trump. He still wants to be president, but that's not gonna happen.
