There’s a moment in every political movement when even the most comfortable voices start to shift. That moment came this morning on CNBC’s Squawk Box, when longtime host and business conservative Joe Kernen pushed back hard on Donald Trump’s baseless claim that the latest jobs report was rigged.

Let’s be clear: this wasn’t some liberal firebrand or Democratic ally. This was a man who’s been in Trump’s corner for years. And yet, even Kernen couldn’t stomach the lie.

When Trump suggested that the Bureau of Labor Statistics had faked job numbers to hurt him, Kernen didn’t flinch. He said flat out: this is false — and worse, it’s corrosive. He warned the President that moves like this undermine confidence in our system.

Trump’s response? “Oh, give me a break.”...
