her changes were mostly due to her not being able to source a larger “log” of steak, as specified in the recipe, and having to instead buy individual steaks.

I'm assuming that in Australia, as here, it would not be difficult to ask even a supermarket butcher to sell her a piece of tenderloin. And if she really couldn't find tenderloin, she could and should have switched to another recipe. But obviously, she wanted one that called for lots of mushrooms.

She must have been an awful cook even when not whipping up a deadly main course. Who would serve mashed potatoes with Wellington? It's amazing none of her family died long ago.
