C'mon man. He said people knocked on their doors and gave them five dollars to vote for a candidate. What kind of nonsense is that? I can understand your story of graft that unfortunately still goes on today but that one seems really far fetched.
How would the bribe recipient prove to the briber that they fulfilled their assignment? And who just walks around a neighborhood knocking on doors and handing out 5 dollar bills to everyone they encounter saying vote for my guy? I'm not going to guess how old that cat is but let's just assume that it was in the 30-50's era and five bucks was a lot of money back then for someone to be walking around and handing out like candy.
Like I said yesterday, I'd take the five bucks even if he was standing directly in front of the polling place, say "yeah sure buddy, whatever you want", and go along with the rest of my day.
