Tarring and feathering, a historically used form of public humiliation and punishment, involves coating someone with hot tar and then covering them with feathers. It was often employed as a form of vigilante justice, particularly in colonial America, against tax collectors, loyalists, or others who were seen as enemies of the cause. This practice was intended to be both painful and deeply humiliating, with the tar often causing burns and the feathers adding to the visual spectacle of ridicule.
