I remember a penny stock scam (ELGL) that had “bought” a mineral asset in Russia. The “asset” turned out to be a tailings pile from a mine. It, of course, had residue that they claimed had value.

Problem is it would cost more to recover than it was worth.

It eventually fell apart.

This has the same smell.
