The number of manufacturers that have their 'parts' made overseas but are actually 'assembled' in America is astoundingly high. Its a massive number. And truth be known these manufacturers would gladly assemble their products overseas as well.. but the shipping and handling is financially untenable. Shipping costs and logistics force the manufacturers to assemble their goods in the country where the consumers are.
Off topic - Something that has been lost over time is why US manufacturers went overseas in the first place. If you ask most people they would say because the manufacturers are just greedy and wanted the cheap labor. And there is no denying there was an element of truth to that but I'm 72 years old and I can tell you the Gods truth the single biggest #1 reason companies began to move out of the US was not out of greed but because they were drove out. How so? Washington did nothing but add regulation.. on top of regulation .. on top of regulation.. on top of regulation.. to the point of total absurdity ..and businesses had the choice of going out of business (which many did) or move. Many moved. Yes labor costs played a role.. no argument there but I'm here to tell you "Made in America" was strangled in America. And that has to change or these tarrifs designed to bring manufacturing back to the US won't produce the desired results. I think thats part of plan but we'll see. I'm all for it.
Ya know its one thing to buy a lawnmower made overseas but it's quite another to have things like our most crucial Pharmaceuticals made in highly suspect places like China. When a person really stops to think on that the possibilities on how that could blow up in our face are countless.
Sorry for the sermon friend! Best of luck with your investments!
