Senate urged to recall Kash Patel and put him under oath over FBI purge

During an appearance on Sunday afternoon, a very agitated former FBI official urged members of the U.S. Senate to drag Donald Trump's nominee to head up the department, put him under oath, and grill him over the ongoing purge that began immediately after his appearance last week.

Speaking with host Alex Witt, Frank Figliuzzi, who served as assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI, claimed there is a strong possibility that almost half of the department's employees could be forced out, thereby putting the nation's security at extreme risk.

While speaking with the host, he suggested that Kash Patel, hand-picked by Trump to be his new FBI director may have deceived senators during his contentious confirmation hearing last week.

With Donald Trump's Department of Justice appearing to be lining up a massive purge, Figliuzzi said he was skeptical that Patel has been out of the loop about what the Trump administration is doing.

"It certainly appears that he attempted to deceive the committee," the former FBI official accused. "I think this is being done deliberately."

"By that, I mean, I think this purge is supposed to happen before he walks in the door so he can claim plausible deniability," he elaborated. "'I don't know what happened, I didn't do it,' yeah, that what's going to happen here."

"What the Senate should do is call him back to the Hill and say, 'Please explain under oath, you had no knowledge of this purge that's happening here? Of course that's incredible and he should not be confirmed," he added.
