Why does the West always seek to portray Russia as a threat or enemy instead of trying to turn it into a friend? For many years, if NATO hadn't made efforts to expand close to Russia, Russia could have been a global trading partner like China.

what a bunch of horse shit. Europe was cutting energy deals with them as if Russia was a good friend who could be trusted. The west made overtures, for decades, of friendship and good trade with Russia, and their leaders got filthy rich off of it. It wasn’t enough.

Russians aren’t capable of valuing being trade partners. The delusion and dream of empire through subjugation and dominance is engrained in the Russian ethos and unless that changes, it all but guarantees that being nice to Russia will cause them to see you as weak. Which is exactly what happened across the decades the west, including many prominent NATO members, attempted to treat them like friends and build interdependent trade deals with them.

So I don’t know if you’re fucking stupid, ignorant, or on drugs, but your premise is hot trash. The start of this war, Russia was threatening to freeze Germany and other European countries, why? Becauase those countries had let themselves, IN GOOD FAITH, become reliant on the savage beasts to the east, having mistaken them for civilized people, rather than the barbarians they are. A mistake they’re not likely to repeat in any of our lifetimes after Russia has once again proven it is an inferior ally and incapable of friendship with its neighbors.
