Trump told his supporters tariffs were about making stuff in America, about American jobs, about lowering costs for Americans. All bullshit, of course, but it sounded good to the MAGAs, even if Trump's own advisors kept telling him it wouldn't work.

What's in it for Canada? What's in it for Mexico? Most especially, what's in it for CHINA?

I mean, the end user is paying the penalty. THAT'S US.

And they're (allegedly) making huge money on the drugs they're sending over the border.

Why would they spend money to change that?

American drug addicts aren't going to suddenly just stop using drugs because Trump imposed tariffs.

Drug cartels aren't going to stop smuggling opioids because tomatoes cost $20 each.

Just like Americans didn't stop drinking because of Prohibition. We got Al Capone and gang violence instead.

So, 25% tariff on tomatoes, including canned and processed, from Mexico and Canada, the two largest sources of tomatoes in the US grocery stores.
