An awful lot of elementary schools, and even high schools, no longer HAVE libraries, thanks to the crazies. That's a pity, because much of the time the parents of the kids don't have many books, if any. Don't the kids talk to their parents about what they're reading?

I did. When I was in second or third grade, I tried to persuade my mother that she really needed to read Nancy Drew mysteries.She was nice about that. (Though little did she know that thirty to forty years later, Nancy would be seen as a kind of feminist hero, and that many books and scholarly papers would be dedicated to her.)

No one is forcing kids to read that book. And probably not all that many do read it. But it must be a comfort for a few to know there're other people in the world like her. Or him.
