Only if the one betting is the very player who can alter his/her performance, them betting on themselves knowing the outcome because they personally make it happen.
A player can't really guarantee a win but they sure as shit can guarantee a loss. Whether that falls into manipulating odds as well may be unknown. Just an aside.

I'm not sure but I think pete rose was betting to win?
